You consider yourself an individual. You have a feeling of self, an I-feeling. You know who you are and then you identify yourself as all of the experiences you have had, the circumstances around you; all the things you know about yourself. And then you identify with the actions you've done. You either feel good and accomplished, or you feel somewhat bad about yourself. But all of these feelings are based on a basic fundamental assumption, a belief that you exist separately from the integrated, interwoven, connection from all life, all existence—that you have a separate identity.
This is an illusion created by embodiment in a physical form. Because you have senses, because you have the ability to receive information and to express information, surely there must be someone there to receive and express. Your consciousness, your awareness becomes identified with that ability, that expression. It becomes identified with your physical form, with your actions that you have done. And so, your identity becomes bound in limitations and you believe those limitations to be all that you are.
This is the Maya, the illusion. It has a relative truth. This world does exist. You do exist in a body, in a form. You do perform actions. But when you do deep inquiry you begin to ask, who am I? Who is it that performs the actions? Who is it that knows that I exist? Who is it that is always there; that was there when you were a child, when you were an infant, and will be there when you're very old and even upon your death bed? Who is there? Who is this one who knows your entire existence?
It is the deeper you, the knower of your I-feeling. The knower of all the actions you have done. There is an aware intelligent witnessing consciousness that is you, that knows all of this. But, what is the nature of this aware witness, what is called Purusha? What is the nature of Purusha? Purusha, that consciousness, that awareness that is your fundamental existence that knows that you exist. That witnessing consciousness is not bound by form. Is not bound by limitations. It has true freedom. It is expansive.
All creation abides within that witness. For every existence, for every rock, every animal, every plant, all that is ever done in the whole universe, there is a witnessing awareness. Did this witness, this knower not exist, what would be? This witnessing consciousness, this knower of your existence, the knower of the existence of all that is, is the fundamental substance of the universe. Your body exists but it has a relative existence. Because without this fundamental substantive nature of being, all would cease to be.
That which you believe is you, separate from all else, is a part of that integrated whole, is one with the eternal Purusha, the undying immortal consciousness. That has always been, and will always be, in which creation has unfolded and all living beings abide. Without this witnessing consciousness, this substantive nature, all would cease to be. This substantive nature is of one presence and when enacted in the cosmic mind, all creation abides. Without this unitary whole, none would exist. That which you call you, is a part of an integrated, interwoven whole is composed of this witnessing consciousness. That witnessing consciousness, that witnessing intelligent awareness gives your existence meaning; allows your existence. Is the substance of your existence.
That which you call you, separate from all else, is only when this consciousness, this awareness becomes identified with form, with limitation. And when that consciousness witnesses your uniqueness, that is the atman—the soul that witnesses all that you are, is closer than close. Because without it you would not exist. It is the substance of you. It is your soul, this witnessing awareness.
There is, in the infinite whole, no division. That which knows you, that which is aware has no bounds, no divisions, no separations. It has been, it will be ever the same. There is no time. There is no place. It is not. All places remain the same. All time is one. There simply is being, awareness, consciousness ever free, ever unbound appearing in the dance of creation to be bound in the countless forms in manifestation. It remains unchanged, undying, ever it Self, unaffected, unbound witness, essence of all that is.
This is the essence of your own spirit, your own nature. When you sink into yourself, deeply into yourself, there is where the inner music is played and the call of the infinite is there. And when you let go into that call there is a vast infinite beingness, an undying love, a truth which is immortal. There, your deepest nature unfolds. There, you are whole.
Every human being has a natural longing, a natural instinctual desire to return to this home, this place of love, this place where you know you belong. There is a natural draw. The whole of cosmos is drawn to this cosmic nucleus. It is always there. It is you in the deepest sense. The inner Beloved in the core of your heart. The Self of yourself. Find your way home. Find the truth, the light, the bliss of infinite being, infinite awareness.
